Excitement is building fast now! We are just 20 days from the event, and ferry bookings are the highest we have ever seen, so set to be an incredible display at the port and at the Airport venue.
Ferry availability for those wanting to cross on Friday 8th September is now limited at certain times. Note the 10am Friday crossing has 50+ minis booked on it. Saturday 10am is still the most popular crossing with near 100 booked on, but there's still space for more if you are still undecided whether to come.
Site planning at the airport is near complete and we have a good compliment of traders booked in. More updates in the coming days!
It is now just 50 days until the 2023 Isle of Wight Mini Adventure! Here are a few updates:
Ferry Crossings:
Friday 8th September crossings from 9am to 2pm are starting to fill up now. Saturday 9th September crossings still have good availability.
The most popular crossings currently are the 10am Friday 8th and 10am Saturday 9th. We are on target for 100+ on the Saturday 10am again!
Accommodation :
Static Caravans at Cheverton Copse (adjacent to the airport venue) are now SOLD OUT.
There are still rooms available at the Premier Inn (Merrie Gardens, walking distance from the Airport) but prices are rising fast.
Camping, Pods and Caravan/Camper spaces where you require full facilities are still available at the Old Barn campsite (again, adjacent to the airport venue), see their website here for details : https://oldbarntouring.co.uk/
Reminder for those taking advantage of the basic camping at the Airport, there is a charge of £5 per car this year, payable at the Onsite Cafe, and no setup before 3pm Friday. No pre-booking for this.
Merchandise :
The online shop for 2023 clothing will close on August 4th so please get any orders in as soon as possible. Limited stocks of other merchandise will be available at the event. By popular demand we have a limited number of car flags available again this year.
Airport Venue :
For those regular attendees, you will be pleased to hear THE APPROACH ROAD HAS BEEN RESURFACED! Speed humps will be added shortly but the very rutted road on approach now has fresh tarmac. Additional food vendors will be on site this year also! A musician has been booked for Saturday night entertainment.
MiniSport will be onsite again with a packed trade stand, plus we have autojumble and local craft traders booked in.
We are still beavering away sorting out more driving routes, preparing Rocker Cover Racing, arranging great raffle prizes and more to keep you entertained onsite for the weekend!
Keep posted for more updates as we get closer to the event
West
Country Minis have been working with Red Funnel ferries organising reduced-rate
crossings specifically for Minis.
With the support of Sandown Airport acting as hosts, this has helped us setup
the largest Mini-only event on the island.
Because there is so much to do across the island, we put together an additional
'long weekend' deal with Red Funnel. So your adventure can run from Friday to
Monday.
February 2023 Update - Basic camping at Sandown Airport will
be available at a fee of £5 PER CAR (one fee, regardless whether 1, 2 or 3 nights), as the site is no longer able to offer this for free. Please pay at the Airport Cafe.
For those looking to take advantage of a long weekend on the Island (Friday - Monday), Cheverton Copse holiday caravans are located a short walk from the main Airport site and welcome us with open arms. See what they have to offer HERE
Old Barn campsite is located at the top of the large Airport field and offers full touring camping facilities including electric hookup.
Alternative accommodation options are available in Sandown town, a short drive away including B&B and Hotels
The
most important thing you need to know about the IOW Adventure event is that
it's yours, not ours!
Ok, so it's got our name on and we arrange a few things but what we really want
is for you to use your time on the island how you want to.
If you want to spend the weekend watching the planes taking off and landing at
Sandown enjoying a drink or two at the bar, or petting the donkeys over at the
sanctuary - the choice is yours.
All
ferry bookings are handled by our friends at Red Funnel. You can book your IOW
Adventure 2023 crossing over on the Red Funnel website.
To give you a quick summary of what offers are avaliable, you can book a weekend
crossing (Saturday or Saturday to Sunday) for £37.50 or a long weekend crossing
(Friday to Monday) for £72.50.
Remember that you must be in a Mini (either modern or classic) to take
advantage of this offer but you'll still be welcome at our event no matter how
you arrive (you'll just have to pay a bit more to get to the island).
If you've got any special requirements (either personally or about your
vehicle), be sure to let Red Funnel know.
For those towing trailers, please take a look at the additional information
you'll need while booking, all covered here.
As we get nearer to the event a couple of IOW regulars will be arranging meeting points along the main routes down to Southampton.
We usually start with a couple of meet points in and around Bristol with the final meeting point at Warminister Services before the main run. But this isn't set in stone, we're open to suggestions for both routes and meeting points - get in touch if you have some ideas or know the areas we pass through.
